Jamie (performance artist) will be producing the “South East Performance Arts Festival” in September 2020.
I wanted to create a festival in which BIPOC could present their work without having to find a space, pay rental fees, and production costs. It’s so rare to be able to have a show and walk away with a profit. And I wanted to give as many BIPOC as possible a festival to showcase their talents while removing the obstacles that keep BIPOC from being able to participate in festivals such as this. Luckily, I found a like-minded partner in Carla Stillwell and the Stillwell Institute for Contemporary Black Art to fund this project. More than ever this community needs to be able to celebrate their artists and hopefully, this partnership will provide many opportunities for years to come.
